Jakub Tengler

Jakub Tengler is a Czech drummer and percussionist.

He studied percussion instruments with Václav Fildán at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, where, in addition to classical music, he studied jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms and Irish folk music (bands Celtic Cross, Acoustic Irish). Since 2007 he has studied percussion instruments at the JAMU in Brno under Martin Opršál, Kamil Slezák, Radek Tomášek and Dan Dlouhý, with whom he has worked on his own compositions for percussion (Bodhrania, Poor music). In 2009 he participated in an Erasmus internship in Vienna, where he studied percussion at the Department of Jazz and Popular Music under Prof. Friedrich Ozmec. In 2012 he was selected for a residency in New York (Music OMI) for musicians – composers and improvisers.

He has collaborated with contemporary music ensembles such as DAMA DAMA, Ostravská banda, Prague Modern, Brno Contemporary Orchestra, etc. Since 2013 he has studied jazz performance at HAMU in Prague under Jiří Slavíček. In the spring of 2018 he toured in a trio with Jiří Slavík and Jiří Levíček. He is currently involved in his own projects (Noisy Pots, Emil & Jakub), collaborates with the Floex project, is a member of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc and works as a hired player.
