Hizbut Jámm
Hizbut Jámm is made up of Raphael Rogiński, Mamadou Ba, Noums Balani Dembele and Paweł Szpura. The Polish musicians are known for their work on the experimental scene, and together they form bands such as Cukunft and Vovoka, as well as being creators of many projects on the borderline of various styles. Mamadou Ba is an actor, musician, playwright and performer from Senegal and a member of the international arts group LaFabriks. Hizbut Jámm presents a unique blend of African ethnic influences with elements of European psychedelia, jazz-rock and improvisation. However, the band's music is not a simple imitation of African rhythms, but a contemporary interpretation in which echoes of West African melodies and scales can be heard. Rogiński is the composer of all the songs, while the lyrics in Wolof and French were written by Mamadou Ba. The group's debut album was released in 2024 by Instant Classic.
