Haken + Between the Buried and Me + support: Cryptodira

Haken have been well established in the prog metal pantheon for years now. They had already won wider acclaim with the release of 2013's The Mountain, and this has certainly been helped by numerous compliments from the likes of Jordan Rudess or Mike Portnoy, but the Brits continue to surprise listeners. Their last two albums have been a clear turn towards the metal branch of progressive music and it has worked out as well as all their previous forays. Joining them will be Between the Buried and Me; this North Carolina-based sextet is most often described as prog metal, but that label doesn't quite reflect their music. Changing styles dramatically over the course of single songs and describing their sound with terms such as new wave polka grunge or adult contemporary progressive death metal, BTBAM have enjoyed more crossover appeal than most progressive metal bands could dream of. Since forming in 2000, the band has released ten studio albums, the most recent being 2022's Colors II, as well as a covers album featuring their interpretations of songs by bands ranging from Sepultura to Depeche Mode. They have also supported bands such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon and Hatebreed. Joining them as support is Cryptodira, one of those bands that pump up and constantly refresh the notion of progressive metal. Without much inhibition, they throw listeners into a whirlwind of blast beats and other death metal components, but on top of that they offer jazzy runs, arena-ready choruses and post-metal snarls.
