Gabriele Evangelista

Italian double bass player. Gabriele Evangelista was born in Poggibonsi in 1988 and grew up in Livorno. He graduated in double bass in 2006 with top marks, honours and a ministerial mention at the Istituto Musicale "P. Mascagni" in Livorno in the class of Maestro Paolo Tommasi, continuing his studies with Maestro Alberto Bocini. Before dedicating himself exclusively to jazz, Gabriele played in orchestras and chamber groups of classical music, also as a double bass soloist, obtaining prestigious awards and important scholarships. Later Gabriele discovered a natural disposition for creativity and improvisation and found that jazz was the most congenial genre, starting to cultivate it with great passion. His jazz training began through the Roma Jazz's Cool advanced course where he had Scott Colley and Salvatore Bonafede as teachers. Between 2008 and 2010, during the In.Ja.M. advanced course at Siena Jazz, Gabriele attended lessons with Rufus Reid, Paolino Dalla Porta, Riccardo del Fra, Furio Di Castri, Eddie Gomez, Drew Gress, Piero Leveratto, Hein Van de Geyn, Enrico Rava, Jeff Ballard, Tim Berne, Billy Hart. Since 2010 Gabriele has been Enrico Rava's double bass player in the "Enrico Rava tribe" quintet and in the "L'Opera Va" project, with which he has performed numerous concerts in Italy and abroad. He recently formed the quartet he shares with Alessandro Lanzoni, Francesco Diodati and Enrico Morello. In the field of jazz, today Gabriele, despite his young age, boasts a number of collaborations as a musician with a long career. Gabriele has played in the most important Italian jazz clubs and performed at important national events. Among the numerous experiences abroad, Gabriele has played in the United States, India, Croatia, Austria, Germany, France, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
