Free Balkan Quintet
Erweiterte Realität, Zeitgenössischer Folk | Free Balkan Quintet is an ensemble based in Prague, who with dignity and courage adapt folk music of the Balkans. Mixing into it the influences of jazz, contemporary music and free improvisation, the unique rhythms and melodies of the East remain more (or less) intact. Imaginative arrangements are concocted by guitar/banjo player Tomáš Mika and Australian accordionist Kieren Alexander, who are joined by violinist Milan Jakeš, bassist Ondřej Komárek, and Jaroslav Noga, amongst other things, on drums.
