Happy Easter is a comedy written by the much-loved in France author, actor, writer and director Jean Poiret. It has been performed many times in Paris and in renowned theatres such as the Théâtre du Palais-Royal, the Théâtre Édouard VII and the Théâtre de la Michodière. The play's success led to its 1984 film adaptation starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Sophie Marceau. This is the second Poiret play to receive a film adaptation, after The Cage of the Madwomen.

Happy Easter tells the story of a Sunday pick-up artist who, when caught by his wife with his lover, tries at all costs to conceal from her the purpose of their encounter. In an attempt to allay his wife's suspicions, he lies that the girl he met is his daughter. One lie entails another, and the whole situation is not made any easier by his wife, who knows from the very beginning what her husband's intentions were. This is a play in which a great liar falls into his trap.
