Foozool

Lara Sarkissian is a sound artist, composer, DJ (Foozool) and filmmaker. She is co-founder of Club Chai in the Bay Area; a music label, radio show, event series, and curatorial project that focuses on the artistic hybridization of non western sounds with contemporary western culture.

Lara Sarkissian’s electronic music focuses on ambient and experimental productions with Armenian influences, sound collage techniques and scoring for films and audiovisual installations. In March & April 2018, she joined the Institute for Sound and Music in Berlin and ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany as an artist in residence. Sarkissian worked with spatial audio in producing a 360 degree immersive sound and visual installation piece in collaboration with Jemma Woolmore for the ISM Hexadome, alongside residents Brian Eno, Holly Herndon, Thom Yorke, and more. The installation piece will be exhibiting at museums in Europe and North America until 2019.

in 2017, Sarkissian made her live set international debut at Moscow Museum of Modern Art’s Hosting the Inhuman exhibition, where she performed a score for her short film. She scored the documentary Shoes I Walk In directed by Jimmy Zhang, premiered at CAAM Film Festival in March 2017 and in Fall 2016, she was invited to hold sound design labs at TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Yerevan, Armenia and Stepanakert, Nagorno- Karabakh, producing 7 youth sound/film projects. Her work has been featured on The FADER, Fact Magazine, Mixmag, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Telekom Electronic Beats, Spin Magazine, Thump/Vice, Tiny Mix Tapes, Billboard, The Creators Project, KQED, Milk Studios, Dummy Magazine, Reorient Magazine, East Bay Express and Truants.
