Etta Marcus

Etta Marcus is an English singer and songwriter from Brixton in South London. She has been involved in music since childhood. She began playing the piano at the age of eight and switched to guitar at ten. She briefly studied jazz at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, but did not complete her studies, choosing instead to focus on her own music.

She began her music career in October 2021 with the release of her debut single Hide & Seek, followed by the track Salt Lake City, created in collaboration with Matt Maltese. Both songs were featured on her first EP titled View from the Bridge, released in 2022. After signing with Polydor Records, she released the single Crown in August 2022, which became part of her second EP Heart-Shaped Bruise, released in January 2023. In 2023, she performed as the opening act at a Lana Del Rey concert in London. Her debut album, The Death of Summer & Other Promises, was released in January 2024 and includes eight tracks, among them the singles Snowflake Suzie, Little Wing, Girls That Play, and Theatre. The album was created in collaboration with producer Josh Scarbrow and also features co-writing contributions from Matt Maltese. Marcus played guitar, bass, and piano on the album and was actively involved in the production process. To support the album, she toured the United Kingdom, including a sold-out show at The Garage in London. In June 2024, she released the single Death Grips, a track developed over four years and revised multiple times before its completion. In the same year, she also performed at the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend festival.
