Édmar Castañeda

Édmar Castañeda is a Colombian harpist.

He was born in 1978 in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. Edmar started playing the harp at the age of 13. He moved to New York City in the mid-1990s to study jazz trumpet before eventually returning to the harp.

Since then, he has taken New York and the world scene by storm. He plays his own compositions, with infusions of the indigenous music of Colombia and Venezuela. His virtuosity and his conception of the harp as a musical instrument, for which he has discovered a previously unrecognized role in jazz, has revolutionized audiences and critics alike.
