Dziczka

The Polish-Ukrainian vocal ensemble Dziczka was founded by Tetyiana Sopilka, an ethnomusicologist and graduate of the Kiev Music Academy. In addition to Tetyana, the ensemble includes Maniucha Bikont, Justyna Czerwinska, Maria Puzyna, Ewa Winiarska and Agata Wróbel. Dziczka performs traditional folk songs, which have been preserved only in oral transmissions passed from generation to generation. The repertoire performed was taken directly from folk artists of Podole, Polesie and Volhynia. These songs have never been written down or recorded, they will be saved from oblivion thanks to Dziczka's work. The group inaugurated its activities with a performance at a traditional music festival in Vilnius in 2006. Its repertoire consists mainly of folk songs found among the inhabitants of present-day Ukraine. Since then Dziczka has been touring around Poland and elsewhere.
