Debit
Debit is Delia Beatriz, an experimental producer and Azealia Banks co-conspirator. In unexpected fusions of ambient techno and dissonance with reggaeton, baile funk and other latin-based club beats, Mexican-American producer Debit harnesses the cerebral and the physical, moving bodies and minds to her cross-genre experiments. A visual artist and musician since childhood, Beatriz started making DIY hardware and circuit bending music in duo HDXD in 2012, after a move to Mexico City inspired by travels in South America and the U.S. There she befriended and began working with some of the producers behind groundbreaking label and collective N.A.A.F.I. before moving to NYC. With one foot still in CDMX, she kicked off her solo DJ and production career, remixing Angolan tarraxa rhythms into Missy Elliott’s Get Ur Freak On for the Pirata 4 mixtape on N.A.A.F.I. Less than a year later, her Animus LP became the first full-length solo album for the label. A hybrid of ambient techno and underground club rhythms, the album unpacks the psycho-sexual and political concept of “animus” by building a haunting, reverb-drenched world – industrial and ethereal and almost uncomfortably arresting.
