Das Kabinett

Das Kabinett is an extensive film and art installation in three containers, dedicated to the silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. It contains a series of film materials presented on monitors, devoted to the film and the epoch in which it was made, as well as a contemporary interpretation of this work by Polish painters: Prof. Zdzisław Nitka and Eugeniusz Minciel, who made the paintings inside the containers. Both are graduates and didactic staff of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw (the director of the film also came from this city). An important part of the container installation is a multimedia sculpture of Caesar in a box, made by Warsaw sculptor Sylwester Ambroziak. In the central part of the installation, a volumetric film Sen Cezar in 2D will be presented. The work was commissioned by Goethe-Institut at UFA X in Babelsberg near Potsdam near Berlin. The roles of Caesar and Dr. Caligari were played by well-known Polish actors: Arkadiusz Jakubik and Jakub Gierszał. This is the first such production in Poland and one of the few in Europe. It refers directly to the tradition of cinema, but also brings its current interpretation in the sphere of contemporary art and the latest film technology. In the last part of the installation a mini-cinema was arranged, where the restored version of the classic Gabinet of Dr. Caligari will be shown.
