Collegium 1704 – Infermi d‘Amore

The Lost in Venice project presents the partially lost and incomplete — and now rediscovered — music of the 18th century Venetian repertoire. The ensemble Infermi d’Amore derives its name and philosophy from the musical institutions that flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly in Venice and Naples, and where music was cultivated as the main means of life for their students. It also refers to the title of a collection of cantatas by the Neapolitan composer Pietro Antonio Giramo, Il pazzo con la pazza ristampata e Uno ospedale per gl’Infermi d’amore (Naples, 1620), which deal with the various forms of madness that can arise from love.

Programme:

  • Francesco Veracini: Ouverture no. 6 B minor
  • Benedetto Marcello: Concerto for Violin op. 1, no. 9 A major
  • Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto for two violins in A major RV 521
