Josef Mysliveček is one of the most interesting personalities of both Czech and global musical history. He was one of the most sought-after composers in Italy in the second half of the 18th century, his operas were performed in the most important theatres and starred the greatest singing stars. He was a model for generations of composers, led by W. A. Mozart, through his unique talent and diligence; he inspired free-thinking artists with his way of life. In addition to opera, he was also a composer of instrumental music, both symphonic and chamber. His last collection of quartets constitutes a remarkable achievement and will be performed in a modern production on period instruments. The concert will be followed by a screening of Il Boemo, a new historical feature film about the life and work of Josef Mysliveček, directed by Petr Václav, at the Pilotů Cinema.
