Love – flaming, secret, disappointed, jealous. This is how the composers of the early Italian Baroque portrayed it in their cantatas, arias, and villanelles. Barbara Strozzi (1619–1677) was one of the most interesting composers of mid-17th century Venice. Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger (1580–1651), now mostly known as a theorba player, is represented here by a selection of vocal works. The aria from the opera Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi (1567–1643) is one of the most emotional vocal pieces from the pen of the madrigal master. The world-renowned Czech soprano Hana Blažíková, a founding member of Collegium Vocale 1704 and today one of the most sought-after interpreters of early music throughout Europe and overseas, will present – together with theorba player Jan Krejča – this extraordinary project created especially for the concert season at Vzlet.

Programme:

  • B. Strozzi – L’amante segreto
  • G. G. Kapsperger – Occhi soli d’Amore
  • C. Monteverdi – Signor quel infelice (opera L’Orfeo)
