Castle Rat
Castle Rat is an American metal bandCastle Rat is a music group from Brooklyn, USA, focused on fantasy doom metal inspired by epic, medieval, and fantastical themes. It was founded in October 2019 and consists of four members: Riley Pinkerton (“The Rat Queen”) – rhythm guitar and vocals, Franco Vittore (“The Count”) – lead guitar and backing vocals, Charley Ruddell (“The Plague Doctor”) – bass guitar, and Joshua Strmic (“The All‑Seeing Druid”) – drums.
Their debut album Into The Realm was released in April 2024 on the King Volume Records label. It consists of nine tracks with a total length of approximately 32 minutes, including three singles released between 2022 and 2024: Feed the Dream, Dagger Dragger, and Cry for Me.
Since their debut, the band has been performing live shows featuring elaborate visual choreography, costumes, and dramatic elements (e.g. staged combat scenes with The Rat Reaperess).
They have performed as support for bands such as Monolord, Firebreather, Stonefield, Heavy Temple, and Acid King, and have appeared at festivals including Desertfest NYC, Hellfest, Copenhell, Mystic Festival, and RPM Fest.
In August 2023, they completed a tour of the American Southwest, and in spring 2025 they performed at several European festivals, including Rock for People.
At the beginning of 2025, a successful crowdfunding campaign (Kickstarter) for their second album took place, which became the most successful metal campaign of its kind in the past decade, raising $139,000 in 37 minutes.
In June 2025, the band released the first single Wizard from the upcoming second album The Bestiary, which is scheduled for release in September 2025 via King Volume Records (USA) and Blues Funeral Recordings (UK/EU). The song Wizard combines elements of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and the style of the guitar solo reflects inspiration from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and the song Electric Eye.
