Black Flag
Black Flag is an American punk rock band.
Black Flag was formed in 1976 in California's Hermosa Beach by guitarist and sole permanent member, Gren Ginn. Combining punk simplicity and non-conformism with a level of noise and dissonance previously only found in the avant-garde and an uncompromising DIY ethos, they laid the ideological and sonic foundations for hardcore punk.
Their debut album Damaged (1981) is considered one of the most influential releases of music in general. Over the course of the 1980s, dozens of members passed through the line-up—including Henry Rollins, Keith Morris and Ron Reyes—and Black Flag itself continually evolved, resulting in the release of a fairly diverse set of six albums over the course of six years. Black Flag broke up in 1986, reuniting several times since then and releasing their seventh LP, What The....
In April 2025, Ginn announced a new line-up of Black Flag featuring relatively-unknown musicians Max Zanelly on vocals, David Rodriguez on bass and Bryce Weston on drums.
