Białe Bzy

The Biale Bzy project was born out of fascination with folk poetry and the search for the music it contains. Texts by Polish rural poets were given a musical setting on the borderline of traditional music and ethno-jazz. Witold Roy Zalewski - singer, musician and researcher of traditional music composed melodies to the poems of rural poets of his choice. More than 20 songs were written under the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and the selection of texts was made from nearly a thousand works from the 19th century to the present. The authors of the words are, among others: Jan Pocek, Elżbieta Daniszewska, Zofia Sulikowska, Józef Małek, Stanisław Harla. In their lyrics one can find both the silence of the morning and the hustle and bustle of civilization, joy, sadness, longing and elation. The band consists of musicians associated with the Poznan music community. Their arrangements refer to Polish traditional music as well as to many trends in world music and jazz. The starting point for the music is always admiration for the world described in poetry.
