Pohledy do minulosti Plzeňského kraje: Archeologie

The exposition familiarizes the Museum visitors with the prehistoric settlement of the region from the primeval times until the Early Middle Ages.

27 panels completed with many photographs from the field research sites run through the development of the prehistorical and early medieval settlement of the region. 34 showcases present the three-dimensional artefacts obtained for the museum collections during more than 130 years of archaeological field research. The exhibits include some quite unique objects such as a bronze shield from Plzeň-Jíkalka; a Neolithic clay sculpture of a woman from Vochov; mask-shaped bronze clips from Kyšice and Dýšina; golden objects from burial mound sites of the Middle Bronze Age, and many other exceptional artefacts produced by the primeval man. The exposition is completed with reconstructions of the uncovered graves, the wooden structure of a water tank from Vladař, and a stone Slavic furnace. The archaeological working methods are presented in a separate section. Thanks to the exhibited replicas, visitors can try weaving on a vertical loom replica or grinding corn with a grindstone.
