Alok
Alok is an internationally recognised author, known for their poetry, comedy and public performances. Their cross-media work explores themes of trauma, belonging and human life. Among Alok's achievements are the books Femme in Public (2017), Beyond the Gender Binary (2020), Your Wound/My Garden (2021), and the creation of the #DeGenderFashion movement - an initiative to detach the fashion and beauty industry from gender patches. In recognition of their work, they were honoured with the inaugural LGBTQ Research Residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and have received GLAAD Media Awards and the Stonewall Foundation Visionary Award. They have performed in over 40 countries over the past decade, recently selling out shows at the Soho Theatre in London, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Kennedy Performing Arts Center and Just for Laughs in Montreal. Critics describe their show as 'provocative and powerful', 'a heady mix of comedy and poetry' and 'a stunningly heavenly event'.
