Derrick May
Derrick May, born in the USA, is a co-initiator of Detroit techno and an important figure for the scene. He also producing as Mayday, Long Ago and Rhythim is Rhythim.
In 1985 he founded the Deep Space DJ-Crew together with Juan Atkins. In the same year, he began producing own tracks and founded the Transmat imprint. From 1987 on, he released various tracks as Rhythim is Rhythim that have gained cult status.
From 1989, he retracted from the techno scene as he was willing to represent the techno hype and commercialization. He was especially opposed towards the techno mass event Mayday, which was using one of his pseudonyms. His last official release appeared in 1993, but he has been DJing ever since,
His debut LP made it into The Wire's 100 Records That Set the World on Fire (While No One Was Listening) list in 1998.
