Bára Basiková

Barbara “Bára” Basiková (born 17 February 1963 in Prague) is a Czech singer.

She began performing publicly in 1982 with the group Precedens, where she first worked as a chorister. Later, after the departure of Jan Sahara Hedel (1984), her singing became dominant. In 1986 she began performing with Michal Pavlíček's rock group Stromboli alongside Precedens. However, in 1988 she left Precedens to join Stromboli, only to return during the recording of the album Pompeje. Martin Němec (Precedens) understood that she was a very distinctive singer eager to make a name for herself. Precedens became her backing band for Basic Beat.

In 1991, her first solo album was released, simply titled Bára Basiková, with the participation of a number of musicians, including David Koller, Lesek Semelka and Michal Pavlicek, who also contributed as writers. In the same year, Precedens fans saw the release of archival recordings of the band from the 1980s, co-written with Basiková by Jan Sahara Hedl, co-founder of Precedens. From 1994 Basiková began to work on musicals, starting with Jesus Christ Superstar, she performed in Rusalka, Cleopatra and Joan of Arc, among others.

She came back to Precedens and Martin Němec’s songs in 2005 and together they prepared the album Aurora. In 2012 the group celebrated 30 years with the release of a selection album Precedens – 30 years. There were also exclusive concerts in Brno, Karlovy Vary and Prague (at the Akropolis Palace, the footage was filmed by Czech Television).
