The Mentors
The Mentors are an American heavy metal-punk band formed in 1976 by three high school buddies. It started innocently enough, the teenagers inspired by the German horror film Devil's Mark regarded in pop culture as "the scariest movie ever", invented the band to perform in hangman's hoods. They then started sending out cassettes of Kiss recordings in very poor quality to clubs in the western northern US, claiming they were their recordings in order to get offers to play.
Beginning in 1981, The Mentors began recording their first releases, increasingly outraging the public with song titles and lyrics, which led in large part to the founding of the Parents Music Resource Center (one convention read, among other things, the lyrics to the song Golden Shower by them), the organisation responsible for the creation of the famous Parental Advisory Explicit Content sticker made famous on album covers.
