Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin

The Orchestra of Deutsche Oper has always been a little left behind Barenboim's Staatskapelle, although with Vicco von Bülow alias Loriot, who enjoys popularity and a good reputation not only among friends of classical music in Germany, has been a member of honor until his death. When the royal comedian got the membership of honor in 2002, he promised to "be available to take sensitive instrumental solo parts in the worst case."

The ensemble was founded in 1912 as the house orchestra of the German Opera House at Bismarckstraße, which became the Municipal Opera after 1925. Among the conductors were Bruno Walter, Leo Blech and Wilhelm Furtwängler.

After World War II Herbert von Karajan conducted as well, later on, further important names in the classic world followed: Claudio Abbado, Horst Stein, Zubin Mehta and Eugen Jochum. Lorin Maazel, Gerd Albrecht, Jesús López-Cobos and Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos successively were general music directors. From 1997 to 2004, Christian Thielemann, who brought the orchestra perfectly together especially in Wagner pieces, led the ensemble. After the Italian Renato Palumbo, British man Donald Runnicles is the musical director of the house.
