Niciton

Batchuluun, band founder of the eight-member ensemble Niciton, is a singer, musician and composer alike – a large part of the band's songs come from his pen. At the age of 14, he wrote his first hit when he was still a piano student at the Mongolian Conservatory of Music. But the band has more talented members. For example, pianist and composer Chinbat occasionally arranged the music for Aretha Franklin (who performed one of his works at the inauguration of President Barack Obama).

The diversity of Mongolian culture is closely linked to the country's eventful history. Even under Genghis Khan, the Mongols not only displayed their martial abilities, they were also open to the culture and religion of the conquered empires. Traditions from the time of the Great Khans mingled with influences from the Chinese dynasties, the Russian Empire and Arab as well as Christian countries. From the field of tension of the surviving traditions, the most varied influences over the centuries and modern Western influences, a culture has developed which, in particular, produces young artists and works. Even though the Western view of Mongolia is still largely determined by outdated clichés, its artists have long since found a connection with modernity. Niciton exemplify modern Mongolia.
