Młody Sprzęt

In Polish hip-hop, where global underground phenomena usually arrive with a sizeable delay, edges smoothed over by the media machine of the music industry, it's hard to find a clear vanguard. Hailing from the Silesian town of Knurów and now a part of the eclectic microscene around Warsaw's Enjoy Life indie label, MC and DJ Młody Sprzęt (per his own request translated to Young Equipment) stands in clear opposition to this trend. Constantly taking inspiration from varied places from sigilkore through Jersey club to UK bass, collaborating with experimental producers and undermining the hip-hop ethos, he creates music that Poland may actually—to use a cliché—not be ready for. He made his debut in 2020 on Wrocław's Txash69 label with the ethereal mixtape Sprzętcity, recorded in collaboration with producer Akwizgram; in its wake, he became something of a it boy of the avant-garde offshoot of the Polish independent scene and helmed the Legendado crew, comprising a legion of like-minded artists, with whom he recorded two mixtapes. In 2023 he released two albums, Life After Sprzęt and Warrior Lady, on which he deconstructed his persona with confessional and direct lyricism.
