Mazen Kerbaj

Mazen Kerbaj is a Lebanese trumpeter and comic book artist, widely regarded as one of the founders and key artists of the country's experimental music and free improvisation scene, Having grown up in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war, he has been part of the wave of artists rebuilding the city's post-conflict cultural scene since the 1990s: in 2001 he co-founded the seminal Irtijal festival, and in 2005 established Al Maslakh, the first experimental music label in the Middle East. As a trumpeter, whether performing solo or in ensembles such as the "A" Trio, Kerbaj pushes the boundaries of the instrument's possibilities and continues to develop his personal sound and innovative language. He has collaborated with such heavyweights as AMM, Evan Parker, Pauline Oliveros, Nate Wooley and The Necks.
