Sting

The 1980s icon Sting first gained prominence as the bassist and frontman of new wave trio the Police, which recorded five highly successful albums between 1977 and 1986, pitting his distinctive, expressive voice with energetic pop rock taking huge influences from punk and reggae. After the band's breakup, Sting embarked on a solo career, helping define the sound of middle-of-the-road adult contemporary pop for years to come—over time taking in more and more inspirations from reggae and other non-Anglo-European musical styles. His solo discography currently includes fifteen studio albums, his latest being 2021's The Bridge. Solo and with the Police combined, he has sold over 100 million records and won 17 Grammys.
