La By'le

La'Byle is a Berlin-based band mixing classic hip-hop beats and funk Carioca spiced with a dose of German rap. The listeners can expect Tamera's and Cara Muru's rap and vocals as well as afro house dancer Luana Madikera's moves.

The band was founded in 2017 as a musical collaboration between Brazilian singer Tâmera Vinhas who hails from Rio de Janeiro and has been living in Berlin since 2013 and rapper, singer and producer Cara Muru who hails from Bremen and has German-Brazilian roots. The duo had the idea to bring Baile funk culture to Germany, paired with the self confidence and lifestyle of Rio and its Favelas. They also merge influences from German hip-hop, afro music, techno brega and reggaeton.

Luana Madikera, also known as Madame Royal, joined group not much later. The dancer has a French-Caribbean background and enriches La By'le's performances with afro house moves and background vocals. Recently she has started rapping own passages in the band's songs, including French into the language spectrum of the group. The intercultural backgrounds of the band members reflect Berlin's diversity, a city in which a quarter of all inhabitants are not German citizens.

With their songs the band shows that integration does not need to be a complicated process: cultures can mix in a creative and natural way. Besides the fun of making music and dancing Ly By'le also give a political statement against macho culture, racism and homophobia. Their activism does not only reflect in their lyrics, but also in what they do not sing about. The band does not accept any texts about rape or that ignore women's rights.

La By'le find their inspiration in Baile funk singers like MC Carol Bandida, Linn da Quebrada or Tati Quebra-Barraco, focussing on women of color.
