Kuracjuszki is a theatrical story about an internment camp in Goldap, located in the building of a luxurious holiday house, where during martial law a total of over 400 women – the oppositionists – were imprisoned. Kuracjuszki is also a story of women told by women – the actors and authors of the play are theatre practitioners, activists and animators who treat theatre as a way to comment on and change reality.
The creators of the play have put aside the dominant narrative, always told from a male perspective. They have combed through the archives and talked to several former inmates. They asked them about the strategies of female resistance, about the reality of life in a "golden cage", about the attempts made by the authorities to bring them back to fulfilling the "female" roles assigned to them. They also asked whether the experience of the women of Gołdap can be an inspiration and a lesson in resistance for us today.
The play is entirely in Polish.
