Kapela Józefa Tomczyka
Jozef Tomczyk's band from Mroczki Maly near Sieradz has been playing together since 1993, until 2015 with the late harmonist Stanislaw Szafirowicz, today in a two-person lineup. Jozef Tomczyk (born 1940), as he tells it, is self-taught, since no one in the family was involved in music. As a six-year-old boy, he made himself a violin from a board and wire, but he tired with it going out of tune. With delight he would eavesdrop under the windows when older musicians played, watching them. Later he played at weddings himself for many years, participated in many reviews, and in 2004 won first prize at the Festival of Folk Bands and Singers in Kazimierz. His music is rhythmically unusual and is characterized by a unique style of bowing.
