Jay Denham

Jay Denham is a techno DJ from Kalamazoo, Michigan, who is one of the most important artist of Detroit techno with various genre-defining releases.

Denham, who played the bass in several punk bands during the 70s, moved to Detroit in the mid 80s to study at the Michigan State University. There he met Anthony Shakir, through whom he later met Derrick May.

A collaboration with Shakir and May culminated in 1990's In Sync EP, which Denham released under his Vice moniker through Frictional.

In 1992, Denham moved back to Kalamzoo to found his own label Black Nation. His debut album Escape To The Black Planet was released in 1998 through Peter Wacha's Disko B imprint.

Meanwhile, Denham has released various productions, mostly through the KMS Records and Black Nation imprints.
