The Palace of Art

Constructed in 1901 as the headquarters of Kraków's Society of the Friends of Fine Arts, the Palace of Art was the work of architect Franciszek Mączyński. The building was conceived as a monumental place of worship for the arts—hence the Ionic elements reminiscent of Greek temples and the frieze surrounding the Palace, which also has a monumental character thanks to the busts placed in niches. The building has three exhibition spaces—Dolny Pałac, Górny Pałac and Świetlicka Wyspiańskiego—serving as home to temporary exhibits of art, including amateur and student works.
