Ewa Liebchen + Emilia Sitarz + Hubert Zemler: Feldman

Festival nightly musical meditations dubbed "The Dream Strand" will be filled with music by Morton Feldman.

Morton Feldman's Why Patterns? (1978) is an over half-hour composition for flute, piano and percussion. As in many of Feldman's other works, the parts of the individual instruments are shaped independently of each other, asymmetrically, and their development is slow, blurring into static, repetitive motifs and single rhythmic structures that have mainly coloristic value. Correlations appearing incidentally between the three parts - flute, bells and piano - result from the energy course of a given performance and are rather accidental. All this, however, forms an unusually tender narrative that transports us to another dimension, beyond time.
