A witty, courtly intrigue set in a 19th-century resort near Vienna. Old Vienna is the real hero of this work, one of the world's best and most popular operettas. It took Johann Strauss only a few weeks to compose it, and the world premiere was a huge success. The audacious comedy of errors with an intriguing libretto in Julian Tuwim's excellent translation still has its admirers today.
libretto: Karl Haffner, Richard Genée based on Roderich Benedix's play Das Gefängnis and Meilhac and Halévy's vaudeville Le Réveillon
