Tennessee Williams' play was transferred to the big screen just three years after its Broadway premiere. However, the 1958 adaptation had a happy ending. Jacek Poniedziałek's new translation takes into account the main character's homosexuality, omitted and marginalised in the previous translation, through which the drama of denial and hypocrisy tears the Pollitt family apart. The director attempts to explore the ephemeral matter of emotionally charged relationships between people in the stormy atmosphere of a family crisis. A grain of mystery must be preserved in the characters' confessions, just as in life people remain to some extent mysterious to others and even to themselves.
