Acker Stadt Palast
The Acker Stadt Palast in Berlin-Mitte is a place where established artists and newcomers meet to experiment and reflect on contemporary discourses. The focus of the venue, founded in 2012, is on the connection of contemporary dance and theater to new music. The Acker Stadt Palast offers the independent scene novel interfaces between these art forms. In addition, it is interested in various aesthetic forms of dance and theater.
The house in which the Acker Stadt Palast is located has a special history: in 1990, artists* occupied the former chocolate factory on Ackerstrasse. They opened a pub and a theater and soon had many loyal spectators. Between 1993 and 2012, a bitter battle for the building raged with the new owner. Despite or because of the difficult times, when they had to assert themselves against investors and owners, under these conditions it could become the free-spirited cultural space it is today. This securing of the project took place thanks to the support of the Berlin Senate and the Edith Marion Foundation.
