Defying
The Olsztyn post-metal band Defying's origins date back as far as 2008, but it wasn't until several years and personnel changes later that their debut Nexus Artificial (2014) saw the light of day. Released two years later, the EP The Splinter of Light We Misread solidified the group's eclectic approach; combining post- and prog metal with influences from black, sludge and ambient has become their trademark. Defying's music is also notable for their extended instrumentation, including brass and strings. Their latest album, Wadera, is inspired by the Polish horror film The Wolf (1983) and the short story Wadera (1977) by Jerzy Gierałtowski; it is a musical tale of revenge from beyond the grave, told in the spirit of dark romanticism.
