Christoph Gallio

Christoph Gallio is a Swiss saxophonist. He performs and writes a wide range of music, from sleek modern jazz with his trio Day & Taxi to free improv (with Ensemble Uncontrolled) and song cycles inspired by Steve Lacy, with whom his studied. The self-taught Gallio has been active in European jazz since the early 1980s, eventually relocating to New York by the end of the decade, where he collaborated with the likes of Tom Cora, Zeena Parkins and Matthew Ostrowski. In 1989, he went to Paris to study with Lacy, his later accomplishments heavily influenced by the latter's signature style. He's since worked with Fred Frith, Phil Minton, William Parker, Rashied Ali, Tetsu Saitoh and Haco, among others.
