Chassol
Klasická, Elektronika | French pianist, composer and arranger Christophe Chassol uses unique methods to compose music that suits both the big screen and the concert hall. His work spans the worlds of popular music, film and contemporary art with a panache reminiscent of Philip Glass, but in a new guise for the 21st century. Born in 1976, the artist has devoted his entire life to music, especially film and experimental music, as well as pop music. He began his piano studies at the age of four at the Institut National de Musique in Paris, where he spent 16 years. He then moved to America, where he received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 2002. For the next 15 years he created music for films, television and advertising. In the following years he performed regularly with French pop artists, including Sébastien Tellier and the band i Phoenix. In recent years, Chassol has co-produced albums by American singers Frank Ocean and Solange. The musician is also involved in contemporary art, collaborating with artists Sophie Calle, Laurie Anderson, and Xavier Veilhan at the 2017 Venice Biennale.
Chassol's compositions are based on original footage taken during his travels to New Orleans, India, Martinique, Paris and Tokyo. This material serves as a catalyst for musical sequences created using piano, keyboards and percussion, as well as vocal and instrumental arrangements that combine filmic image, sound and colour. Chassol calls this method "ultrascoring"
