Boris Grebenshchikov & Aquarium
Aquarium or Akvarium (Аква́риум in Russian) is a Russian rock group formed in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg, Russia) in 1972. The band had many member changes over its 40-year history, and at the end the only remaining original member was lead singer and founder Boris Grebenshchikov. Among the Russian audience it is hard to find a music lover who has not heard about the band Aquarium or did not know its leader Boris Grebenshchikov. The musician has been active for over 48 years, he has recorded dozens of albums in underground publications (samizdat) and many more when the word "rock" was no longer banned. Boris Brebenshchikov is a forerunner in using Western influences and adapting them to his native language and he has shown many how it is possible as a Russian to sing not only St. Petersburg romances, but also Jamaican reggae and African sukuss, American folk and Irish ballads. In total, Grebenshchikov has published over 58 albums and about 1000 songs.
