Urban Nation Museum

The Urban Contemporary Art platform opened in 2017 in Berlin-Schöneberg the Urban Nation Museum with the aim to gather international artists, support young talents and to create a large audience for the urban art and serve as an archive for this temporary art form. In the Wilhelminian-style building, GRAFT architects created an exciting two-storey course by removing ceilings and installing diagonal bridges. The modular façade also shows changing works of art.

The Urban Nation Museum presents a major exhibition every year. For the opening exhibition, 150 international and local urban art artists were selected and created works of art mostly on canvas especially for the house. Among them are artists like Shepard Fairey, Fintan Magee, Vhils, Herakut, JR or Lora Zombie. The exhibition shows a cross section of different genres and techniques and covers the entire spectrum of urban contemporary art: from text-based works to portraits and action art to pop-like, photorealistic and conceptual works.

Working together with the neighbourhood is important to the Urban Nation network, which is part of the charitable foundation Berliner Leben. There are regular workshops for young people from the north of Schöneberg. Also around the museum, on the facades of the Bülowstraße, well-known urban artists have sprayed and glued their murals.
